Chapped lips – Causes and treatment

Chapped lips can be very annoying and bad looking too, especially for women who care enough for their appearance and want to have beautiful, attractive, juicy lips. The chapped lips not only can be painful but they also create an ugly view on our face and don’t allow us to put on makeup as we like.

Unfortunately, our lips can lose their moisture very often and get dry with some cracks on their surface. The worse part and most irritating, is when they bleed because of the dryness, which makes the problem even more serious. However, there are ways to deal with chapped lips and be relieved from the bad feeling we have.

1.Usually, chapped lips appear because of the weather and the environment. The basic factors are the wind and cold during winter and the dehydration and dryness during summer because of the sun and the sea.

2.Dryness on the lips can be caused when you take some kind of medicine or supplements, for example iron supplements or isotretinoin for the cure of acne.

3.A very common cause for chapped lips is the lack of hydration and everything that can dehydrate our body (even fever).

4.We can cause dryness on our lips by our selves, when we pass our tongue and use saliva or when we bite them. This way we make the problem even worse.

Chapped lips-Treatment

  • There are many products we could buy and use to be relieved from chapped lips and the annoying feeling they create, such us moisturizing products on the form of a stick (that look like lipstick) , some of them can add an extra shine on our lips or some color. You should prefer buying products that also contain sun protection , even during winter.
  • Try and always keep yourself hydrated and also wash your mouth after every meal you have.
  • Be careful not to lick or bite your lips, especially when you have a problem because this will irritate them more and make them even drier.
  • You can use a product that contains castor oil because it helps your lips keep the moisture inside and protects them better.
  • Try to make on your own a natural product for your lips that has also a good taste, so that you are able to use it more often. A very simple and easy recipe that costs nothing, is the following:

Put on your palm a tablespoon of sugar and another one of butter and mix them very well. Then spread the mix on your lips with your fingers making massage on the same time. We use the sugar for the necessary peeling and the butter for making our chapped lips soft and hydrate them deeply. When the mix is absorbed, you can put on your lips a lip balm or some Vaseline.
